Lucky Leprechaun Hat Pattern
Print out pattern and scale (Approximately 400%) to size.
*Iron-on adhesive comes in many forms. For this project you will need to buy the variety that comes on a bolt. It usually is available 17" wide and can be cut to any length. |
INSTRUCTIONS: Hat - Print out and enlarge pattern 400%.
- Center hat pattern over foam board, cut one. Set aside.
- Center buckle pattern over yellow felt, cut out. Set aside.
- Press 1 side of adhesive onto green felt (follow instructions for product). Let cool.
- Cut six 18" strips of crinoline.
- Remove paper from other side of adhesive, lay strips of crinoline over it and press. Let cool.
- Lay strips of crinoline over adhesive on green felt and press. Let cool thoroughly.
- Place hat and brim pattern over felt, cut one each.
- Glue long edges of green felt to long side edges of foam board. (Notice that the felt is larger than the board. This will make the felt bow forward to give the hat dimension.)
- Glue a piece of Metallic braid to the top edge of the hat. Wrap 1/2" ends around to back side of hat.
- Insert black ribbon into gold buckle (see project photo).
- Glue black ribbon around hat 2 1/2" up from brim (refer to project photo).
- Glue a piece of trim around the outside, round edge of the hat brim.
- Place hat brim, trimmed side down on work surface.
- Center top of hat to back straight edge of hat brim. Glue in place. Let dry completely.
- Flip hat brim up and glue in place (see project photo). You should now see the underside of the hat brim with trim.
Ribbon Shamrocks - Cut three 24" pieces of wired green cross-dyed ribbon.
- With one piece of ribbon make three 3" loops following instructions for puffy bow (found in our Classroom). Leave the remaining tail to make the stem. Tie off shamrock with a 20" piece of spool wire. (When tying the wire to the shamrock, leave one end of wire much longer than the other).
- Curl long end of wire around a pencil to make a coil.
- Form a small circle at the end of the wire. Lay a bead of hot glue on the hat and lay wire circle into glue. Hold shamrock in place until glue is cooled. Glue the wire ends behind the brim on the hat or at the back of the hat so the glue will not show.
- Repeat steps 18-20 for a total of three shamrocks
- Cut a piece of wire 8" long. Twist wire ends together to form a loop (for hanger).
- Hot glue hanger to top, back corner of hat. Let cool completely.
- Enjoy!
